Charges laid in north Lethbridge shooting

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Charges have now been laid in connection to a north side shooting from earlier this week.

24 year old Bira Jamal Ahmed is facing a long list of offences including: aggravated assault; assault with a weapon; discharge firearm with intent to endanger life; possess weapon dangerous to public; using firearm in commission of offence; unauthorized possession of firearm; possess loaded/restricted firearm; possess firearm obtained by commission of offence; and fail to comply with a release order.

He remains in custody and is due in court next Friday.

One other person taken into custody was released without charges.

Lethbridge Police were called to the 800 block of 7 A Avenue north late Wednesday night as a 49 year old Lethbridge man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound.

Officers say the incident was not random.

They are still looking for the firearm involved and anyone who comes across it is asked to call police immediately without touching it.
