UPDATE: Tornado warning remains for parts of the M.D. of Taber, downgraded to advisory for Lethbridge region

UPDATE #5: The tornado warning for the M.D. of Taber near Enchant ended as of 4:39 p.m.

UPDATE #4: As of 3:57 p.m. the M.D. of Taber near Enchant remains under a tornado warning.

UPDATE #3: As of 3:41 p.m. the M.D. of Taber near Enchant, Vauxhall and Hays is under a tornado warning. The City of Lethbridge, and parts of Lethbridge County near Coaldale, Coalhurst, Norbleford, Barons, Picture Butte and Turin are under a tornado alert.

UPDATE #2: The M.D. of Taber near Vauxhaul and Hays was added to the warning as of 3:19 p.m.

UPDATE: The M.D. of Taber near Enchant was added to the warning as of 3:04 p.m.

Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for Lethbridge County near Picture Butte, and Turin.

At 2:38 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. A severe thunderstorm that is producing a tornado is located 15 km north of Picture Butte, near Keho Lake. The tornado is moving to the northeast at 25 km/h.

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes. If residents hear a roaring noise or see a funnel cloud they are advised to seek shelter.

“Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.”

“Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, building if you can”

If none of these are an option residents are being advised to lie in a low spot and protect your head from any flying debris.
