As pups, these small animals are born wide-eyed, covered with fur, and ready to run.
Guinea pigs are pleasant-natured, social small animals native to the Andes mountains and Peru. In the wild, groups of guinea pigs are called a herd. Skinny pigs, however, are not found in the wild, but you can often find these hairless guinea pigs at Petland.
They make a number of different sounds. They thrive with companionship and will purr while they cuddle together and make a soft cooing noise to comfort each other. They also squeak as an alarm or to inform their humans that they would like some treats.
Guinea pigs are little explorers and they love supervised time out of their homes. The X-pen playpens we carry are perfect for this. Guinea pigs have excellent spatial awareness as well as a great sense of smell and hearing. They’re clever and can get bored, so it’s important that they have lots of toys, space, and mental stimulation.
They also love their hay, pellets, and vegetables (just no iceberg lettuce), and they can have fruit occasionally. Like us, guinea pigs can’t make their own vitamin C and require it added to their diet.
Something unbelievably cute that they do when they’re really excited is jump about to show how delighted they are! This has been termed “popcorning” because they jump straight up in the air with joy.
