Stirling Wind Project funding to help improve local facilities

Stirling Wind Project’s Community Benefit Fund will help improve facilities for five local organizations and schools.

In Picture Butte, Bee Hive Child Care will receive funds for its climbing wall/dome and St. Catherine’s Home and School Board will receive funds towards a playground. The Diamond City Citizens Association will receive funds towards a new community hall and the McNally Community Association will receive funds for bathroom repairs. Holy Spirit School Division will also receive funds for a sound system.

The recipients were selected through an application process, which was approved by Lethbridge County Council at a June 20 meeting.

According to the County, funding will be distributed among the recipients as part of Potentia Renewables Inc.’s commitment to communities where their wind turbines are located. In 2023, the company contacted the County, as their Stirling Wind Project has 14 turbines in the municipality.

The intent of the Community Benefit Fund is to provide support to charities, not-for-profit organizations, schools and community organizations for capital projects, events or arts and education programs. Projects must fit the criteria of environmental enhancement, social welfare, arts and culture, emergency relief, health and wellness or education and science.

“These organizations provide a great value to our residents and it’s our hope this funding allows them to continue making a difference,” says Reeve Tory Campbell.

Another funding opportunity is still available through the Stirling Wind Project. The Community Benefit Scholarship is open until July 31 for students entering their first year of post-secondary studies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Math.
