This Friday, the YWCA Lethbridge and District Fitness Equipment Auction and Sale gets underway until Aug. 2.
The YWCA’s Co-Ed Fitness Centre closed in 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Later, the centre operated intermittently amid public health restrictions, but has since remained closed to the public for nearly two years.
As part of this closure, the YWCA also shared plans to auction decommissioned gym equipment to the public to raise funds to support its existing programs. Bidding begins at 8 a.m. Friday, as well as the sale.
According to the YWCA, the closure allows the organization to direct its attention on its mandate of serving women and children experiencing domestic violence.
All funds raised during the auction and sale will be infused directly back into the YWCA, enhancing the available programs and building additional engagement opportunities.
“The Health & Fitness Program at the YWCA in Lethbridge provided, for many years, fitness services. Although we are sad to see it close, the funds raised and the useable space opened will allow the organization to continue to move forward with new programs and initiatives aligned with our primary mission – supporting women and children fleeing domestic violence and ending all forms of gender-based violence in our community,” says Chief Executive Officer Jill Young.
You are invited to visit the online auction to browse the many pieces of fitness equipment available. You can also visit the YWCA facility during available viewing windows and view the items in-person.
Items range from full-sized fitness machines, such as treadmills and weight benches to yoga mats and blocks.
