A 27-year-old man is facing charges connected to an alleged incident that sent a 19-year-old to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
According to Lethbridge Police officials, on Saturday police responded to reports that the teen had been knocked out by a security guard. By the time police got to the scene, the 19-year-old had left the scene, but police say they were able to get his identity. He later went to Chinook Regional Hospital for a head injury and was air-lifted to Calgary in critical condition.
Police continued to investigate the alleged incident and were able to review CCTV footage.
According to a statement from police, “the victim had previously left a line-up in the parking lot while waiting to get inside the business and was walking back towards the building when he was approached by a security guard, punched in the face and fell to the ground, striking his head on the pavement.”
The security guard is said to have been contracted to work the event, which was being hosted in the 3500 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South. According to police the 27-year-old is facing one count of aggravated assault and has been released from custody. Officials say the accused’s name is not being released as police are also conducting a seperate investigation into alleged allegations of threats of harm he has received following the incident.
The victim was discharged from hospital Wednesday and is said to be recovering. The accused is scheduled to be back in court in late November.
