Community Peace Officer charged in off duty incident

A Lethbridge Police Community Peace Officer is facing charges connected to an off-duty incident and has been suspended with pay.

According to Lethbridge Police Service officials, the CPO is facing charges for assault and assault causing bodily harm in connection for what is described as a historic family violence-related matter. The alleged incident is said to have happened between 2006 and 2014. The investigation was opened in October of this year when the report was made to police.

Police will not be releasing the name of the officer to protect the identity and privacy of the victim.

The accused has served as a CPO for over a year and a half, and officials say they are releasing the information in the interest of public transparency.
