A call for nominations has been announced for the Lethbridge Sport Council’s 15th annual Achievement Awards. They recognize and showcase excellence and spirit in sport, and celebrate athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and sport leaders in the community.
The council says local athletes have not only participated, but have excelled in sport, and coaches, officials, volunteers, administrators and supporting businesses have continued their efforts to provide athletes with opportunities to pursue their passions.
“Over the past 15 years, the Lethbridge Sport Council Achievement Awards have become a community-wide celebration of the incredible people who make sport special,” notes Susan Eymann, executive director. “Getting to know our winners and continuing to cheer them on is a privilege. These awards are our way of saying thank you for their commitment to building and supporting sport in Lethbridge.”
There are 17 awards in four categories, including:
- Athlete Performance – Junior Male and Female, Senior Male and Female, Master, Athlete with a Disability, Special Olympics Athlete and Amateur Team.
- Sport Excellence – Community Coach, High Performance Coach, Officiating, Volunteer in Sport, Dr. Gary Bowie Sport Event, Business and Sport Excellence.
- Leadership – Shaun Ward Sport Champion, Sport Administrator, Sport Organization.
- Spirit in Sport – Servus Credit Union Outstanding Sport Citizen, Knud Petersen Spirit in Sport Award.
Any person who is affiliated with a Lethbridge sport organization, trains at a Lethbridge sport facility or is a resident of Lethbridge is eligible. An online nomination form, award guidelines and information about sponsoring an award are available at the Lethbridge Sport Council website.
The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2025. The awards ceremony will be held April 8 at the Canadian Western Bank Lounge in the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
