The enrichment of animals in the care of the Lethbridge Animal Shelter is a major focus of the organization’s newly structured volunteer program.
According to officials, the changes will implement more consistent and structured exercise, training, and enrichment activities for cats and dogs in the facility.
As well the change includes scheduled volunteer shifts to support the animal care team and make availability for adoption appointments more available. Potential volunteers will go through an application and screening process.
The new program will be replacing the animal visiting appointments and drop-in opportunities.
In a statement, shelter officials say “We greatly appreciate all those who have taken time over the years to stop by and visit with the shelter animals.”
Open kennel access for visiting and viewing at the Lethbridge facility will end on January 27th and over the next few weeks, officials will be collecting volunteer applications.
