Talking projects: City of Lethbridge all set for next ‘Community Conversation’

Next week, you will have the chance to learn more about projects happening in your neighbourhood as part of the latest ‘Community Conversation’. 

The City of Lethbridge hosts the free open house-style event at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29. 

Communications Manager Tara Grindle notes over 40 projects will be on display. 

“Instead of hosting multiple open houses throughout the year, we bring them all together in one place,” Grindle explains.

“That helps us save some resources and saves you some tax dollars.” 

She notes that attendees could potentially learn about something they were not even aware of was happening in the community. 

“You might come to learn about snow plowing and then you might find out something is happening at the park down your street,” Grindle says. 

She adds that the event provides ample opportunity to meet the people behind all the projects happening in Lethbridge, as well as those responsible for everyday services.

“It’s a really good opportunity to come and talk to people face to face – the people that are out there providing the service to you every day, and developing these programs and services, and then [giving] feedback on things [that] are going to be happening and how our city is going to kind of grow and develop going forward.” 

POSITIVE REVIEWS 

Grindle says at each ‘Community Conversation’ held so far, attendees have completed an exit survey. “I think we’re in the 90 per cent of people [saying] they would come back, or it was a good use of their time, every time,” she notes. 

“We’re seeing that kind of repeat customers coming back. If you’ve been once, you come back again because you know there’s value in learning what’s happening in Lethbridge.” 

FAMILY FUN 

The event will not only be informational but will include multiple family-friendly activities, including free skating, prize draws and giveaways. Attendees can enjoy free hot chocolate and mini-donut samples as they walk and talk around the arena.

“We’re really happy this time to partner with the Lethbridge Hurricanes. We’re at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena and the ice is in, so there’s free public skating. We’re going to have the Hurricanes and their mascot coming to skate with anybody who wants to come and skate during the event as well,” Grindle says. 

She adds the mascot for Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services, Sparky, will also be on-hand. Grindle says the Helen Schuler Nature Centre will have a kids’ play area set up.
