Hurricanes advance to WHL Eastern Conference Finals with game seven win over Hitmen

The Lethbridge Hurricanes are off to the WHL Eastern Conference Finals! 

The Hurricanes topped the Calgary Hitmen 3-1 in the deciding game seven of their second-round series on Wednesday night. 

Over 4,600 fans packed the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, including many from Lethbridge. 

Alternate captain Brayden Edwards got the scoring started early for Lethbridge with a goal just over three minutes into the game. Luke Cozens and Caden Price got the assists.

David Adaszynski scored at the 12:48 mark of the opening period to tie the game, but Lethbridge closed the frame up 2-1 thanks to a Logan Wormald goal at 17:32, assisted by Edwards and Logan McCutcheon. 

The second period saw no goals, but Luke Cozens scored the final goal of the game at the 3:33 mark of the third. Edwards earned the assist. 

This marks the first time since 2018 that Lethbridge has advanced to the Eastern Conference Championship. That year, they fell to the Swift Current Broncos. In the conference finals, the ‘Canes will go up against the Medicine Hat Tigers. 

Games one and two of the series are in Medicine Hat on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26. The conference final will shift to Lethbridge for games three and four on Tuesday, April 29 and Wednesday, April 30.

Meanwhile, the Portland Winterhawks and Spokane Chiefs battle in game one of the Western Conference Championship Series on Friday.
