Lethbridge man sentenced to jail for drug trafficking

A Lethbridge man being handed a 90 day jail sentence for his involvement in a large drug seizure in Medicine Hat two years ago.

An ALERT investigation from Dec. 2017 found meth and cocaine were being transported into Medicine Hat through Lethbridge.

In this case, the Crown says 30-year old Michael Abate was a courier for a 49-year old Medicine Hat woman, Shonna Scriven.

Scriven was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in jail in August 2018 for two counts of drug trafficking for possessing more than an a kilogram of meth and 226 grams of cocaine. It’s believed to be Medicine Hat’s largest-ever meth seizure.

Abate pleaded guilty to one count of drug trafficking.

He’ll spend the next three months behind bars and will not be allowed to own any firearms for the rest of his life but he will not have to serve any term of probation after he’s released from jail.
