Streaming local sports with LiveBarn

LiveBarn is a new streaming service for City of Lethbridge arenas and ice centres. The platform provides live and on-demand broadcasts of local amateur sports.

Jennie Sudo, Recreation and Culture community liaison, says LiveBarn is for folks who are not able to be at the ice arena in-person. “They’re able to watch their loved ones from wherever they are, if they have an Internet connection.”

According to Sudo, LiveBarn has over 1,900 streaming services throughout North America. “We’re able to partner with them to allow our local sports teams to expand into other communities.”

“We want to be able to support our local athletes anyway we can,” adds Sudo.

Sudo says five arenas will be on-board, including the Labour Club,  Nicholas Sheran and Henderson Lake. The Cavendish Farms Centre and the Logan Boulet Arena will go live by mid-November.

“We have everything from ringette to Lethbridge Minor Hockey in our facilities,” notes Sudo, and some practices will be streamed, as well as some recreation leagues and the local figure skating clubs.

It’s cool technology, Sudo says, as the cameras are motion-sensored. “Once there’s more than two skaters on the ice, the cameras start rolling. When you have your subscription, all you do is log onto livebarn.com, find your arena and start viewing or we do have app options. You can download the app and watch from there.”

User groups are also able to benefit from having the cameras rolling. “They’re able to record some of their practices and games, so they can reflect back on videotape and use that to help train athletes,” says Sudo.

There is no cost to the City for this streaming service, Sudo adds. “There’s no cost to our citizens, everything is provided by the vendor, so that’s great. They operate based on a subscription-based program.”

Right now, the City is offering a 10 per cent discount for Lethbridge residents with a promo code. Visit lethbridge.ca/news/posts/get-ready-to-stream-local-sports-with-livebarn for more information or to access the promo code.

Henderson Lake Arena is one of the facilities to launch the new LiveBarn streaming service.
