Reopening of Fritz Sick Pool delayed as upgrade work continues

You will have to wait a bit to check out renovations at the Fritz Sick Pool.

The City of Lethbridge says the recreational site’s reopening has been delayed, citing unforeseen issues with the pool basin.

Enhancements are being made to improve accessibility at the facility, including:

  • Barrier-free showers and toilet stalls
  • Two additional women’s showers (five total), plus a universal shower
  • Widened access points to the pool and locker rooms
  • New open and accessible entrance into a larger lobby with a barrier-free counter
  • Non-slip flooring throughout all locker, washroom and shower areas
  • Updated wheelchair ramps

In October, Canadian Recreation Excellence General Manager Sunni Belle said the upgrades were “all about inclusivity”.

The City adds that while the Fritz Sick Pool remains closed, both the Stan Siwik and Nicholas Sheran pools will continue to offer additional programming.

Officials say efforts are underway to reopen the Fritz Sick Pool as soon as possible.
