Lethbridge, according to Uber’s ninth annual Lost and Found Index, is the most forgetful city in Canada.
Phones and cameras are the most commonly forgotten items left behind by Canadian riders over the past year with a snare drum being the most peculiar item forgot in a Toronto Uber.
But gold teeth, a piano and grandparents are on the list for bizarre leave behinds.
Other forgetful cities that made the list include Kelowna and Victoria in British Columbia. It seems Toronto, Ottawa and Calgary are noted as the least forgetful cities in Canada.
Wallets, purses, backpacks, luggage, keys and headphones are other commonly forgotten items in Ubers, according to the index numbers.
A stuffed sloth, a cat urine sample and a rock from Japan make the list of unique items lost.
The Lost and Found Index lists New Year’s Day and Father’s Day as the most forgetful days in Canada, as Saturday at 11 p.m. marks the day of the week and time.
Uber Canada spokesperson Keerthana Rang says Lethbridge was not on the list last year. “It’s a fun list we put out every year revealing the most surprising and commonly forgotten items.”
This year, Kang notes, people were noticing a lot of big musical instruments being forgotten in an Uber, including a tuba-like instrument. “Those were all really interesting.”
“Really, this is just a way for us to remind folks when they’re using Uber and they’re hopping out to look in their back space before they get out,” adds Kang.
Uber representatives note the best way to retrieve a lost item is to call the driver, “but if you leave your phone itself in your car, you can log-in to your account on a computer. Please note, there is a $20 fee to get your items returned, and that fee goes entirely to the driver.”
Another tip is to go into the Uber app under “Past Trips” and from there you can find another section entitled, “Lost Items.”
“If you tap on that, you’ll be connected with your driver. Hopefully, both of you can arrange a time for the driver to drop off the item,” says Kang.
Kang says other Lethbridge-specific forgotten items in an Uber include the necessities of life. “On the Lethbridge list, groceries were often left behind in an Uber. That was not on the list for the country in general.”
